Praying Friends,

Have you ever wondered if God has your back? If He can always be trusted? If He knows and does what is best for you all the time?

Life is full of big surprises…many times, unwanted surprises. Sometimes it turns in directions you never expected.

Sometimes things happen that just cannot be understood or explained. And so we wonder: why? How?

From my limited perspective, I, too, have questioned His faithfulness. In fact, many times! Yet the final realization is always the same. He is reliable all the time.

The psalmist also came to this understanding as he wrote the next stanza of Psalm 119 under the 12th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, LAMEDH. He stated it clearly. (Psalm 119:89-96 NIV):

Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.

If there is one truth that is more difficult to understand than the eternal nature of God, I am not sure what it is. Just think of it: He had no beginning and will have no end.

No one created God. If God had a creator, then whoever that being was would be God.

Our God is eternal!

It is too much for the finite human mind to fully comprehend. We can only accept it by faith.

While this is a difficult truth to understand, it is also a marvelous truth for us who are under His personal love and care. Having an eternal perspective provides a massive vantage point on what is best in every situation.

The older one gets, or the more experienced one becomes, the better equipped that person is to speak wisdom and give good guidance.

Let me explain. Have you ever experienced a child asking the question why? Like, why can’t I eat those chocolate bars? Why can’t I cross the road by myself? Why do I have to go to bed so early? Why, why, why? A 2-year-old child has a very limited understanding of life and what is best for them.

A parent, on the other hand, knows that the sugar rush from chocolate will make the child hyper. Crossing the road alone is dangerous for toddlers. Getting the proper amount of sleep will help children (and adults) live and interact well. You get the point.

Imagine the knowledge, the wisdom, the understanding, the perspective that a God who is eternal has? Here we are trying to figure things out in life with 20, 30, 70 years of experience, and at our disposal is the Word of an eternal God. A Word that crosses the boundaries of generations and cultures, and is able to supply all that we need.

It would be foolish of us not to avail ourselves of such a resource. After establishing the constancy and reliability of God’s Word, the psalmist said, “Your precepts…have preserved my life” (v93).

My encouragement to you today is to continue to find your guidance, your comfort, your satisfaction, and your hope from God’s Word. Remember, like Him, it is eternal.

Thank you for praying for our prodigals and for revival among us today.

Warm regards in Christ,

Bryan and Rachel
