(By Rachel Joyce)
Your lavish love
Pours out extravagantly,
Not only on the obedient,
But on the unworthy, the ungrateful,
On us.
And You say,
“Love like Me, my child,
Gently and patiently,
Be selfless and kind
To all.
Not just
To the righteous, those who seek Me,
But to the critics,
Cynics, slanderers, those
Who hate.”
Really Lord?
Must I? It feels so unfair.
The wounds are so deep,
But You gently repeat
“Love like Me.”
How can I
Who have known such love
Not love in return?
Love through me
O, Lord of love.
Fill me.
Overflow my heart
With Your love
When I have none
Of my own.
Let Your love
O, Savior mine,
So freely given to me,
Be freely given by me
To all I know,
Regardless
Of who they are
Or what they do
Help me love with
Your love.
And so I rest
In Your great love, flowing
To me and through me
From my God,
The Lord of love.
“See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” (John 13:34-35).
